At Mouda Laser & Skin Clinic, we specialize in laser hair removal for both men and women. At our laser clinics, the procedure is fast, simple, and results in permanent removal of your most stubborn hair in the treated area – providing you with fantastic results.
However, for proper recovery and to avoid any post-treatment complications – especially if you have sensitive skin – there are a few steps you should take for proper laser hair removal treatment. Take a look now, and learn more about the steps you can take to avoid any irritation or damage to the treatment area.
1. Avoid Extended UV Exposure For At Least A Week Post-Treatment
For at least 7 days post treatment, you should avoid exposing your skin to the sun which could damage your sensitive skin. The removal of your hair follicles will make your skin very sensitive to sun exposure, and you could get a serious sunburn if you expose your skin to too much sun.
Use an SPF 50 sunscreen, ideally with aloe vera, to protect your skin from the sun. Wear long sleeves and long pants, sunglasses, and a hat to protect yourself from the rays of the sun, and avoid being outdoors during the hours when the sun is the most bright and intense.
2. Avoid Spray-On Or Fake Tans For 2 Weeks After Your Session
Getting a fake tan is not recommended for at least 2 weeks after you have laser hair removal treatment, as the chemicals involved could damage your skin or stain it. Wait until you are fully healed before using a spray tan or a tanning cream, to avoid any potential side effects.
3. Don’t Get Other Skin Treatments For At Least 2 Weeks
This should go without saying – but we’ll say it anyway. While your skin heals, you should definitely avoid having other skin treatments on the affected area, until it has healed completely. Do not use procedures like microneedling, chemical or physical peels, or other hair removal strategies on your skin until it has fully recovered.
If you do get other skin treatments before your skin was healed completely, you risk serious damage and personal discomfort – and unpleasant side effects like blisters, ingrown hairs, and damaged skin.
4. Avoid Excessive Heat For 24-48 Hours Post-Treatment
It’s best to avoid too much heat for 24 hours to 48 hours post-treatment. This includes things like:
- Hot showers
- Seat warmers in your car
- Exercising in the outdoors (if it’s hot outside)
- Using heat packs or hot water bottles
- Sitting in saunas or hot tubs
Your skin will be very sensitive, and these things could result in pain and discomfort after your treatment, and a high body temperature.
Keep things cool until about 2 days after your treatment, and listen to your body – if you feel uncomfortable, stop exposing yourself to heat. You can also use ice packs or aloe vera gel to help relieve your skin if you’re feeling hot and uncomfortable.
5. Moisturize And Care For Your Skin Properly
This is important both pre treatment and post treatment. Before your treatment, keep your skin clear of sun exposure for a week, and make sure it’s clean, moisturized, and exfoliated properly.
Then, after treatment, you should avoid the application of any makeup, deodorant, or topical creams for at least 24 hours. Then, you can begin your normal skincare routine. Exfoliate your skin very gently, and apply a moisturizing sunscreen to protect it.
Go easy on the products – wait until your skin has fully healed, in about 2 weeks, to go back to your normal, day-to-date routine.
